The Christian Science Monitor reported that Ford is being sued for "false and misleading" claims about its C-Max Hybrid and Ford Fusion Hybrid, stating the cars can get 47 miles per gallon (mpg) under normal driving conditions. One California car owner obviously didn’t agree and filed a lawsuit in federal court in December taking Ford to task over the Company’s allegedly misleading mileage claims.
The lawsuit’s plaintiff, Richard Pitkin of Roseville, would like Ford to reimburse him (and other owners) the purchase price of the car, rescind sales of the cars purchased in California, and initiate an "informational campaign to correct ‘misrepresentation and omissions’". Korean automakers Kia and Hyundai face similar suits over possible inaccurate statements of their EPA fuel consumption figures on a number of their vehicles. The sister car companies have devised a system of compensating owners who claim to have been misled by the figures.
