The Essex County, Massachusetts District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said, "There are no winners here today." The results of a texting-while-driving car accident February 20, 2011, are that a 55-year old grandfather is dead, a female passenger in his car has painful residual effects of serious injuries she suffered in the accident and can no longer work, and an 18-year old is convicted of homicide and is going to jail. The accident took place in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The conviction, a year and four months afterward.

Judge Stephen Abany sentenced Aaron Deveau, 18, to two and a half years on the vehicular homicide charge and two years on the texting and causing injury charge. He will serve one year for both charges concurrently, the balance of the charges are suspended for five years. Deveau’s license will be suspended for 15 years.

Deveau’s sentence is a stiff price to pay for texting while driving. Bowley, who died, paid the ultimate price. Thirty-eight states have now banned text messaging for all drivers. This could be anyone's family. Almost 5,000 people die every year in the United States from distracted driving.
