The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Sunbeam Products Inc., doing business as Jarden Consumer Solutions ("JCS"), of Boca Raton, Florida, are recalling approximately 520,000 Mr. Coffee® Single-Cup Brewing Systems in the U.S. and 80,700 in Canada. Steam can build up in the water reservoir of the brewing system and the steam’s pressure can force open the brewing chamber sending hot water and coffee grounds out of the brewing system into the surrounding area, posing a burn hazard to persons in the immediate vicinity. JCS has received more than 160 reports of the brewing chamber opening from pressure due to steam build-up, including 59 reports in the United States of burn injuries and two in Canada, according to the CPSC.

The Mr. Coffee® Single-Cup Brewing Systems were sold by mass merchandisers throughout the United States, including K-Mart, Walmart, Brandsmart, Lowe’s, Target, JC Penney’s and Bed, Bath and Beyond, and online, from September 2010 through August 2012 for from $60 to $80. The single-cup brewing system is black with silver, red or white trim. The water tank on the brewing system is toward the back of the unit on top. The unit is about 11 inches in height.

Recalled brewing system model numbers include: BVMC-KG1, BVMC-KG1A-001, BVMC-KG1-WM-001, BVMC-KG1-001, BVMC-KG1-BEA, BVMC-KG1R-001, BVMC-KG1-044, BVMC-KG1BP-PAL, BVMC-KG1R-006, BVMC-KG1A, BVMC-KG1-WM, and BVMC-KG1W-001.
