Honda is recalling V6 Accords from model years 2003-2007 for potential fire risks. This is a safety-related recall. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), the defect is related to the power steering hose which may leak and cause an engine fire.

The Accord recall is an expansion of a recall of 53,000 Acura TL's from model years 2007-08, which had the same problem. This latter recall was from May. Acura is a Honda brand.

Honda will replace the power steering hoses free at your local dealership, although replacement parts will reportedly not be available for the Accords until 2013. Perhaps Honda's planning, or foresight, is lacking regarding the replacement parts, or lack thereof for at least 3 more months. If you are an Accord owner and have to wait for a replacement hose, perhaps you should keep a fire extinguisher handy in your car.

No injuries or crashes have been reported yet, but an engine fire was documented by Honda.
