Here is one thing to nix for the coming winter months and holidays, if you want a safe season: Fire Gel, a.k.a. Fuel Gel or Fire Fuel Gel.
What is it? It is chemically-based and combustible.
Effective October 29, 2011, 23,400 bottles of Fireside Gel Fuel made by Evergreen Enterprises of Richmond, Virginia, have been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in a continuing recall of fuel gel by various manufacturers and the CPSC due to possible burn and fire hazards.
These “recalled bottles include pourable gel fuels in 30-ounce plastic bottles that were sold with or without citronella oil.”Fireside" and "Gel Fuel," as well as "Evergreen" and "Flag & Garden" are printed on the bottles. The gel fuel was sold from December 2010 through September 2011 for about $10.”
CPSC says the gel can “unexpectedly splatter and ignite”… (Not in my home, thank you). Consumers are advised to stop using the gel fuel immediately and can call 877-558-1511 for more information and/or return the bottles to the company for a full refund.
