Bose Corporation of Framingham, Massachusetts, is voluntarily recalling 20,500 Bose Dual-Voltage CineMate II Home Theater Speaker Systems due to a fire and burn hazard. A component in the bass module of the system can fail when used in electrical outlets outside the U.S. that are rated 220 Volts or higher. Although the speaker systems were designed to operate with U.S. 120-Volt electrical outlets and European outlets of 220 Volts or higher, Bose has received two reports of the bass modules igniting when used in 220-Volt electrical outlets in Europe.

The Bose Dual-Voltage CineMate II Home Theater Speaker Systems were manufactured in Mexico and sold by U.S. Military base exchanges and retailers throughout the U.S. from September 2009 through September 2012, for between $600 to $800. Systems affected by this recall bear a product code of 051365, 051470 or 057971, the first six digits of the serial number located on the product label on the back of the bass module.

Consumers should stop using and disconnect the Bose dual voltage CineMate II speaker systems from electrical outlets immediately and contact Bose to arrange for a free repair or replacement of the bass module by calling toll-free 1(877)354-1004 or, if outside the U.S.,by calling 001(508)614-1842, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
