October 23, 2012, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of 97,000 Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets by the Dorel Juvenile Group, of Columbus, Indiana, due to a suffocation hazard. The hazard is the bottom locking mechanism which can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed, and the bassinet can tip to one side causing an infant to roll to the side of the bassinet creating a suffocation hazard. Dorel has received 17 reports of incidents involving infants younger than three months.

The bassinets which bear the Eddie Bauer™ name, were manufactured in China, and were sold by Target, Toys R Us, and Sears stores throughout the country, and online by Ebay and other internet stores from December 2007 through January 2011, for approximately $150.

The recalled bassinets have a dark brown wooden headboard and footboard and a cotton bassinet that comes in a variety of colors and patterns. “Eddie Bauer” is printed on a metal plate on the footboard. Model numbers affected by this recall are 10632, 10639, 10832, 10835, 10839, and BT021. Model numbers can be found underneath or on top of the mattress support board, or on the wash and care label.

Consumers should stop using the bassinets immediately and contact Dorel, by calling toll free, 1(877)416-0165, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or visiting the website: http://www.djgusa.com/usa/eng/Safety-Notices to obtain a free repair kit, including a spring and new instructions for assembly.
