Prime-Line Child Safe Products Recalled– Including Outlet Covers and Tub Non-Slip Pads

Comments Off

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with the Prime-Line of Redlands, California, has issued a voluntary recall of 37,000 Prime-Line Child Safe products including outlet covers, drawer and cabinet latches. Also recalled are 8,000 Prime-Line Child Safe bathtub non-slip pads.

The Child Safe outlet covers were sold at Ace Hardware, Cimarron Lumber & Supply, Do-It-Best, Friedman Brothers, Handy Hardware, Menards and W.E. Aubuchon stores nationwide between October 2009 and June 2011 for approximately $3.50. Drawer and cabinet latches were sold at Ace Hardware, Bostwic-Braun, Cal-Do-It Centers, Do-It-Best, Friedman Brothers, Menards, Orgill, The Andersons Inc. and TrueValue stores throughout the U.S. between October 2010 and June 2011 for from $2.50-$2.70. The Child Safe non-slip bathtub pads were sold at Ace Hardware and Menards from May 2010 through June 2011 for about $6.00.

The Child Safe Non-Slip Bathtub Pads are whale-shaped, white vinyl bathtub pads, that have textured surfaces with adhesive backings, used to help prevent children from slipping and falling in bathtubs. The pads were sold in sets of 12 and 15 and contained pads ranging in size from 2 to 4 inches tall. The model number S-4630 and SKU number 049793846303 are printed on the back of the package.

All of these products were manufactured in China and were imported and sold under the brand name Child Safe. The screws on the safety latches and outlet covers can loosen and break. When this happens, young children can gain access to electrical outlets or other potentially hazardous items kept in drawers or cabinets. Some of the non-slip bath pads do not stick to the bathtub surface, posing a slip-and-fall hazard.

Consumers can contact Prime-Line for a refund or replacement, by calling toll-free (855) 839-9555 anytime, or visit the firm’s website at www.prime-line-products.com To view a photo of the drawer/cabinet latches and outlet covers, please visit the CPSC website at: www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml11/11284.html To view a photo of the bathtub pad, please visit: www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml11/11285.html
