Whirlpool has issued a recall for 1.7 million dishwashers under the brand-names Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley. The recall cites the washers as potential fire-hazards that could result from an electrical failure in the heating element. So far there have been 12 reports of fires coming from faulty washers, with no injuries involved. Affected units sold for $250 to $900 throughout the U.S.
