Mitsubishi To Recall 14,700 Mitsubishi I or i-MiEV Electric Cars for Brake Fault

Comments Off

According to a brief note in Reuters, January 24, and in Green Car Reports of the same day, Mitsubishi Motors Corp plans to recall14,700 Mitsubishi I, or i-MiEV electric cars due to a problem with the brakes.

The international recall is an effort to fix a part of the brake booster system which might cause a car to travel a longer-than-expected distance before stopping when the driver depresses the vehicle’s brakes. To date, no injuries or fatalities have been reported to Mitsubishi due to this problem.

It is believed that Mitsubishi dealers will be able to fix the problem in a vehicle in less than an hour. Mitsubishi has sold an estimated 27,200 i-MiEV vehicles since 2009. Although not every i-MiEV car is affected, most of the affected vehicles are located in Japan and Europe, with fewer than 700 of the plug-in cars sold in the US. It is also expected that Mitsubishi will be contacting US owners. (GreenCarReports, 1/24/13)
