Japanese (Toyota) and U.S. (Ford, GM, and Chrysler) manufacturers are not the only car makers to have recall issues recently. Joining the club are BMW and Volkswagen (VW), albeit to a lesser extent because the volume of vehicles is far less than the aforementioned manufacturers, although the issues still involve safety concerns: fires.

BMW 1 Series vehicles made from 2008 to 2011 have been recalled because of a potential fire hazard. The front-seat safety-belt retractors can ignite. This is a potential safety defect.

Additionally, VW has recalled 15,902 of its Routan minivans due to a potential fire hazard that could be caused by short-circuiting rear-door latches. Again, a potential safety defect.

If you have one of these vehicles, see your local dealer to get the necessary repairs completed.
