Fore! The CPSC is Recalling 4,000 Golf Carts due to Fire Hazard

Comments Off

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a voluntary recall for 4,000 golf carts and utility vehicles manufactured by Club Car LLC of Augusta, Georgia, due to the risk of fire. The 4,000 golf carts and utility vehicles were sold by authorized Club Car dealers between April and June 2012, and ranged from $5,500 to $17,700 in price.

In July, Club Car LLC also recalled 800 golf carts and transport vehicles due to a fuel hose separation problem which also posed a fire hazard.

The carts and vehicles were manufactured in the United States and are gasoline- or diesel fuel-powered. The safety hazard is the cart’s and vehicle’s fuel tank filler neck can crack and leak fuel causing a fire. Fortunately, although there have been at least ten reports of the filler neck cracking, there have been no reported injuries, on or off the links, thus far.

Golfers and consumers should stop using these carts and vehicles immediately and contact Club Car LLC for a free replacement fuel tank. Consumers may reach the company by calling their toll free number, 1(800) 227-0739, ext. 3831, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Consumers may also visit the recall page on the firm’s website at www.clubcar.com and click on “Safety Info”.

To view a list of models and serial numbers or view photos of the recalled carts and vehicles, please visit the CPSC website at: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml12/12748.html

Be careful out there on the course – golf just got a lot more dangerous. Now not only do you have to watch out for a slice off the tee box, but also for burning golf carts.
