Devilbiss Recalls 460,000 Air Compressors Due to Fire Hazard

Comments Off

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Devilbiss have recently issued a voluntary recall of approximately 460,000 air compressors made by Devilbiss Air Power Company, manufacturer of air tools, air compressors and accessories, of Jackson, Tennessee. Nine reports of the air compressor motor overheating and three reports of resulting fire damage were received by Devilbiss.

This is a potential safety defect.

The air compressors were sold under the Craftsman brand by Sears stores from January 2003 through December 2004 and under the Porter-Cable, Delta Shopmaster, Husky and Devilbiss brands from September 2000 through December 2005 (for from $199-$299).

Consumers are requested to stop using the air compressors immediately, unplug them and call the companies’ toll free numbers to request free inspection and repair. Devilbiss can be reached at (866) 220-5627 and Sears at (888) 279-8013. Photos of the air compressor, makes and model numbers can be viewed at the CPSC.gov website: www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml11/11117.html
