CPSC Recalls 2 Million Drop-Side Cribs

Comments Off

On Thursday, June 23, the CPSC recalled 2 million drop-side cribs made by multiple manufacturers. The moveable sides of such cribs provide hazards that could result in a child being strangled or suffocated to death should the child become trapped if the sides malfunction. So far, 32 children have reportedly died. Several other instances have resulted in babies getting stuck, babies falling from their cribs, babies being knocked unconscious and, in one instance, a broken collarbone.

The cribs recalled were manufactured in China, the United States, Canada, Italy, and seven other countries, with some models costing upwards of $500. Makers include: Child Craft, Delta Enterprise, Evenflo, Jardine, Bona Vita, Babi Italia, ISSI, Million Dollar Baby and Simmons.

The hazards of drop-side cribs have long been investigated, and a ban on drop sides will hopefully find its way into mandatory crib rules to be enacted by the end of the year.
