BMW to Recall 570,000 Vehicles in the U.S. and Canada

Comments Off

As Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood resigns, recalls continue. BMW’s most popular car series, the 3-Series sedans, wagons, convertibles and coupes, manufactured from 2007 through 2011, are the target of this recall. In addition, 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured from 2008 through 2012, as well as Z4 sports cars manufactured from 2009 through 2011, will be recalled for the same problem. Faulty cable connectors and a fuse box terminal in the automobiles may “degrade over time” which can ultimately cause the cars to lose electrical power and the engine to stall unexpectedly.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) is aware of the problem and company documents filed with the agency show that movement between the battery cable and the fuse box may have caused the problem. BMW has agreed to have dealers replace the battery cable connector and it for free, according to an article that appeared in the Detroit Free Press.

The recall will involve 504,000 U.S. vehicles and 65,000 in Canada. Owners should contact BMW for more information by calling 1(800)525-7417.
