Black & Decker and Craftsman Electric Mowers Recalled

Comments Off

Black & Decker "voluntarily" recalled cordless electric lawn mowers due to a risk of injury, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported. The lawn mowers were made by Black & Decker and sold under the Black & Decker brand as well as under Craftsman label. About 160,000 mowers were made and were sold from September 1995 to December 2006 for approximately $450.

For more information on this and other recalls, see: www.cpsc.gov

The potential defect and safety hazard is that the motor and blades may keep running after the mower’s "safety key" has been removed. Black & Decker has received 34 reports of these start-ups, resulting in injuries to two users.

Recalled models include Black & Decker CMM1000 and CMM100R and Craftsman 900.370520. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and to call Black & Decker or Sears for a free inspection and repair or a credit for a new mower. Consumers can also call 888-281-5314 for information.
